Habitat for Humanity

South Carolina Summer 2005

Habitat group before departure

Throughout the last nine months, the Luther League youth have excitedly planned the details of their Habitat for Humanity trip to South Carolina.

At a Praise Worship in July, the youth and sponsors were commissioned to go forth as representatives of St. Peter’s and testify to the love of Jesus Christ. During this worship the congregation and Praise Team also laid hands upon the trip participants while they prayed for safe travel and blessed ministry.

Two weeks later, bright and early on a Saturday morning, the youth and sponsors began the long drive east to South Carolina. It was then the adventure began!

Greetings from South Carolina! We had a safe trip, lots of driving, but arrived safely. We went to Ft Sumpter in the harbor this afternoon, down to the beach for some ocean time and will have worship with communion tonight. Our Habitat work begins tomorrow and we expect to have a very good week!

We have been very busy working, site seeing, and getting to know our Lord. The days are very hot and humid, the nights less hot and humid. We have a great place to stay at Isle of Palms Baptist church. We went to the Aquarium Tuesday afternoon and out to a seafood restaurant that night. On Wednesday the group built driveway and utility shed forms, and hauled and poured cement. They worked very hard and did a great job! We are going to the beach this afternoon and to a restaurant that is on the beach, no shoes and wet suits welcomed. Tomorrow, Thursday, we plan to finish our work at the Habitat site and tour a plantation in the afternoon. Our daily devotions are from Matthew's Gospel centering recognizing Jesus in the people we meet and serve. Greetings from hot, humid South Carolina! We finished our work at the Habitat site today. The Habitat people said our youth were a great bunch of kids who were willing to work hard and do a great job! Of course we already knew that. We toured a plantation in the Charleston area today and will tour downtown historic Charleston tomorrow. We will be leaving Friday afternoon to be in Spartansburg SC so we will be able to go white water rafting on Saturday morning. We've had a great week and are looking forward to being home on Sunday.

In Christ,

The Habitat Group

Greetings from Spartanburg, South Carolina! We finished our Habitat work and the kids did great! The Habitat leaders were very pleased with the work they did and would welcome them back anytime. We took some time to sightsee in Charleston, visiting a plantation, taking a horse drawn carriage tour of Old Charleston and some shopping. Saturday is white-water rafting in Tennessee and then home on Sunday. A great way to end this year's trip.

In Christ,

The Habitat Crew
