2006 Spring Fling for the Young at Heart - What a Success!
On
Sunday, April 30th over seventy five members of St. Peter’s gathered during
the Spring Fling for the Young at Heart. The evening began with a social hour
where guests enjoyed mingling with couples, sipping glasses of cold soda, and
posing for Big Band photos. Here our church Treasurer, Mrs. Shirley Petrack,
smiles for the camera.
Against a backdrop of classic hits from the 40’s, 50’s, and 60’s,
the couples were seated and served a delicious meal prepared by some of St.
Peter’s finest chefs: Jan Osier, Stacie Osier, Cheryl Rogers, and Deanna
Schafer.
The meal consisted of three courses: a chilled fruit cup; homemade bread, sliced carrots, creamy potatoes, baked ham, and tender chicken breasts basted with Italian dressing; white swirl cake with whipped cream topping.
Younger couples from within the congregation, served as waiters and waitresses throughout the evening.
To help make this possible, childcare was offered as well. Children devoured dino-shaped chicken nuggets, macaroni and cheese, jelly jigglers and Rice Krispie treats. They played games, colored pictures, and dressed dolls. The children’s meal was prepared by Chuck & Carolyn Thompson and Gary & Ramana Schmidt. Children’s entertainment was provided by Shelli Benson and her daughter Emma, as well as Amy Worley.
After dinner, guests enjoyed a trip down memory lane led by Laurie Rogers. A PowerPoint presentation was created from the individual or wedding picture each guest submitted.
Laughter and great fun were had by all as guests tried to match names with pictures. Of course there was also much reminiscing over dresses and hairstyles, couple poses and “what were we thinking” expressions. Fred and Sylvia Hawker’s wedding photo as well as Wanda Johnson’s senior year picture are just two examples of the beautiful memories people were able to share.
The evening concluded with each guest receiving a special CD featuring the music that was played throughout the evening.
