"No longer will a man teach his neighbor, or a man his brother, saying, 'Know the Lord,' because they will all know me, from the least of them to the greatest."

Community Parish Nurse Update

April 2006

Thank you to everyone who participated in our “Pie by the Slice” fundraiser. To those who donated pies – they were great! Cake Image To those who “bought” their piece of pie – weren’t they delicious?! Best of all remember that every penny of the funds raised from this event go to support the Parish Nursing program, which benefits our entire community.

We are currently in the process of applying for grants to cover yearly program costs. Bike Image For example, this year we plan to focus on car seat and bicycle safety as well as provide informational programs pertaining to drugs and alcohol. We will also again be sponsoring the summer “Fit for Life” walking campaign. If the grants come through, we hope to offer some special incentives for all the walkers.

We will continue with our home visits to those who need follow-up and others who just appreciate a visit. A committee will be in place to provide occasional meals to those who have returned home from the hospital, etc. Blood Pressure Cuff Image We also continue our efforts to increase the number of volunteers who are able to be available to help with transportation when it is needed. The Blood Pressure screening will continue on a monthly basis with follow-up as needed.

If you feel you would be able to help with any of our volunteer projects, please let me know. Our goal is to ask volunteers for assistance no more than once monthly. However, my personal experience has been that any opportunity to volunteer service usually benefits the giver as much, and often more, than the recipient. Further still, volunteering is a wonderful way to share God’s love and for St. Peter’s to continue offering opportunities for outreach.
