Treasure Cove at St. Peter’s
Tuesday, June 6th through Friday, June 9th, children from Greene and surrounding communities enjoyed mornings of fun and friendship at Vacation Bible School. As in the past, the community of Greene endeavored on this adventure together offering an ecumenical experience with the Catholic, Presbyterian, Methodist, and Lutheran churches all hosting classes of VBS. Nursery and Pre-kindergarten classes were held at St. Peter’s.
Each morning, the children were greeted with a warm smile by Kay Muhlenbruck (a.k.a. “Grandma Kay”).
Throughout the week the children learned about the treasures we as believers find in Christ Jesus. They explored Bible stories and met characters like Simon Peter, Andrew, James, and John who left their jobs and homes to follows Jesus. Children were reminded of Jesus walking on water and feeding 5000 with only a little boy’s lunch. They learned about all the creatures God created and how special each one of us is in God’s eyes.
Of course, hungry minds make for very hungry tummies. Thankfully, Bev Heidenwirth and Mary Leigh Dralle made certain there were plenty cheese, crackers, and apples available during snack time.
Wee ones sang songs like Jesus Is Our Greatest Treasure, Oh How I Love Jesus, and Ephesians 1:7. By creative actions and enthusiastic singing, music director Teresa Feldman helped the children discover the priceless treasures of Christ Jesus.
Everyone loved their time outside with recess directors Melissa Majewski, Molly Marquard, and Kristen O’Brien. The children played basketball, balanced hula hoops, drew pictures with sidewalk chalk, played dodge ball, and created games of their own.
On the last day of VBS, the children performed a special program for their parents and grandparents. Highlighting the many great things they learned throughout the week, kids sang and danced around the gathered guests. Everyone celebrated the greatest treasure of all: “In Jesus we have the riches of God’s grace.” Ephesians 1:7
Treasure Cove 2006 was a great success in learning and friendship! Even after the last child waved good-bye and all the classrooms were void of streamers and balloons, the enthusiasm for Christ carries on in the hearts of all those who participated in this week of treasure seeking. How awesome is that!!
VBS is a tradition at St. Peter’s and a program that takes dozens of volunteers. So to the teachers, helpers, and behind-the-scenes workers …
